Communicorp achieved G7 Master Printer Certification. According to IDEAlliance’s Directory of G7 Master Printers, Communicorp is one of seven Georgia printers to have G7 Master certification in the area of offset printing.
Today, Communicorp employs nearly 200 people and maintains one of the largest, most advanced printing and fulfillment facilities in the Southeast. The company’s 117,378 sq ft print production facility and fulfillment distribution center in Columbus are continually updated with the latest technology available.
In 2008 Communicorp officially entered into an agreement for the purchase of a Heidelberg XL 105-10 color perfecting sheet fed printing press. The 10-color press, designed to boost productivity levels significantly, received the renowned Printing Industries of American / Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) InterTech award for innovations in 2007.
A new HP Indigo 5000 – 4/color unit was purchased, with optional 5th and 6th color towers included. This was the beginning of a string of technology upgrades that continues today.
The Top Gold Award (highest honor bestowed by the industry) and six Best of Category awards along with 12 Awards of Excellence were presented to the Communicorp team in 2003 by the Printing Institute of Georgia.
In 2001, the first year of participating in the PIA contest recognizing companies for their outstanding Human Resource policies and practices, Communicorp was named as a Best Workplace in the Americas winner. This marked the first year in a string of 10 consecutive years that Communicorp was to be awarded this honor.
The warehouse addition was completed in 1993 and gave Communicorp 14,000 additional square feet, freeing up space in the original building for more production capacity.
In 1987, an additional 6-color Heidelberg press was purchased to bolster the capabilities of the still-developing printing department at Communicorp.
Communicorp acquired the equipment and employees of Howard Printing Company in 1984 through a corporate merger. Later that same year, Communicorp purchased its first 6-color Heidelberg press. Also in 1984, Communicorp launched a satellite office in Atlanta, GA to serve clients within the metro area with print services and corporate products.
By 1982 the present production plant and administrative office building was completed, and thirty-plus employees moved into a facility with much more space for prepress, press and finishing operations.
Originally conceived to provide business cards, letterheads and brochures for the headquarter and field force offices, the concept grew into Communicorp, Inc., chartered as a Georgia-based corporation in 1981.
In 1967, American Family Life Assurance Company established an internal print shop in the basement of the original two-story Aflac building in Columbus, GA with six employees, two AB Dick presses and one small Heidelberg letter press.
